I've been busy with printmaking the last couple of weeks; here are some pieces I did at Flatbed Press in Austin today. It's a lengthy process. This is a monotype done using the subtractive method (inking a plate, then removing ink with Q-tips, brushes, etc. to create a drawing. I usually start with a rough idea for the subject, but the fun of monotypes is letting the ink patterns suggest form and shape.

Unfortunately it has been a difficult summer so far. I've been taking care of a very sick cat (my 18 year-old "baby" and best friend) with kidney failure. Although not unexpected, it is very hard to deal with thought of losing him, and I don't think he has much time left. Truly, he is my once in a lifetime pet.

This one has everything I like: interesting shapes, lots of light, and a figure.
There were overhead windows/skylights throwing beautiful shadows on the skating rink. Combined with the skater's own shadow, it made for some interesting design possibilities.

I can't remember what the perceived flaw was, but I think it had something to do with color. Sadly, this was wiped off the canvas before it dried and it no longer exists.
